BUTLER TOWNSHIP — Butler Township’s favorite officer is retiring at the end of the year.

Butler Township Police Department announced the retirement of K-9 Zorro after serving more than seven years with handler Sergeant Amy Carr.

The duo will not be splitting up, however, as Zorro will live out the rest of his retirement at home with Carr and her family.

During his time with the police department, Zorro has had over 400 deployments leading to the arrest of over 150 people.

The police department said they plan to have a new K-9 handler selected by the beginning of the year and have a new K-9 by March.

Those interested in making donations toward the new K-9 can send them to Butler Township Police K-9 Unit at 3510 Sudachi Road in Dayton.

The police department said all donations will be used to buy the new K-9, cruiser and equipment.
