K9 Daphne retires from Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office after six years of service

MONTGOMERY COUNTY — The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office announced that after six years of service, K9 Daphne is retiring.

K9 Daphne is a German import that is certified in patrol work and explosives detection and has been with the sheriff’s office since February of 2016 after being donated by Mountain Protective Services, according to a social media post.

According to the sheriff’s office, K9 Daphne has done numerous explosive searches for political candidates that were campaigning not only in Montgomery County, but several other counties as well.

She has also done explosives searches for the University of Dayton and the NCAA for events such as the First 4 tournaments that were hosted here in Dayton.

Throughout her career, she spent time doing K9 demonstrations at both schools and various events to educate the public on what canines can do and the types of services they provide, the sheriff’s office said.

She will be 12-years-old at the end of June.

“Her time after retirement will be spent at home hanging out with her handler, Deputy Johnny Campbell and his family where she enjoys getting a lot of belly rubs and treats,” the sheriff’s office said.
