Kettering man sentenced to at least 131 years in prison in child rape case

KETTERING — A Kettering man was sentenced to prison Thursday after being convicted of sexually assaulting two children, according to a release from Prosecuting Attorney Mat Heck, Jr.

Robert Jefferey Ruehle, 34, was sentenced to 131 years to life in prison.

In April 2018, one of the victims, now an adult, disclosed that Ruehle had been sexually abusing her since she was 10-years-old, the release said.

The second victim also disclosed in September 2019, that he had also been sexually abused by Ruehle from a young age.

The mother of the children failed to believe the incidents happened.

The Montgomery County Grand Jury indicted Ruehle in November 2019 for two counts of rape of a child under 13 years of age, eight counts of rape by force, two counts of gross sexual imposition of a child under 13 years of age and one count of gross sexual Imposition by force.

A second indictment was filed on July 21, 2020, charging Ruehle with an additional count of gross sexual imposition by force after further investigation, the release said.

On July 23, 2020, a third indictment was filed charging Ruehle with an additional count of Rape of a child under 13 years of age.

After the trial, a jury returned verdicts of guilty as charged on all counts in the indictments in March.

In addition to the prison sentence, Ruehle was designated a Tier III Sexual Offender, the most serious classification.

Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr. released a statement about Ruehle’s conviction.

“This defendant has a long history of sexually assaulting people, including these children – even before they moved to Montgomery County. Thankfully, when the disclosure was made to school staff, they promptly reported it to law enforcement. During Child Abuse Prevention Month, this case is a good example of the positive results that can be obtained when our agencies work cooperatively to protect children. These children bravely coming forward, even if they were failed by their mother’s inaction, insures this defendant can never hurt them or any other children again,” Heck said.
