The ribbon cutting took place at the new Fire Station 34, at 2575 Woodman Dr.

Three new stations were built in Kettering in the last three years, with plans of one more. Kettering originally had six fire stations, but is changing its model.

“We’re working towards the four station model. We have three of those stations built, our fourth one will be on the west side. It has helped our department put our fire stations in places we can respond quicker,” according to Kettering fire Chief Tom Butts.

The new buildings replace fire stations that were up to 50 years old that did not have facilities for men and women. They also have training capabilities and new technology, according to Butts.

News Center 7’s Malik Perkins spoke with Kettering residents who felt the project was worth it. Watch WHIO-TV starting at 5 p.m. tonight.

The last fire station is expected to be completed in fall 2018.
