Kettering votes to ban commercial dispensing of adult use cannabis

KETTERING — The City of Kettering voted Tuesday to ban the commercial processing and dispensing of adult use cannabis.

The ordinance to ban adult use cannabis passed the city council with a 5-1 vote.

The city’s agenda lists negative secondary effects associated with adult use marijuana, including “increases in cannabis-related crime,” “increases in cannabis-related traffic accidents and fatal crashes,” “accidental exposure and consumption by children,” “increase in noise, traffic, parking issues, loitering, panhandling, street dealing, chemical explosions, water use, pollution,” etc.

Its agenda also reiterates that federally, marijuana is a Schedule I drug.

The city’s ordinance will go into effect two weeks after the vote, according to city code.
