As reported Friday on News Center 7 at 6:00, the City of Troy got a report detailing what the potential renovations at the Troy Aquatic Center could lead to, including the possibility of having a water park.

The City of Troy contracted with MSA Sport and Water Technology for a feasibility study to determine the best approach to extend the life of the Troy Aquatic Park, according to the city’s website.

News Center 7′s Mason Fletcher said there are some big numbers in it as far as costs and the changes could included general renovations, including some big additions that have some people excited.

“I instantly have an opinion. I love a lazy river,” said Amy Watt.

She and Carrie Glover both live in Troy and use the Troy Aquatic Center. They think it could use some upgrades.

“I know it’s been a very tight fit for the summer, so I had to keep it for the city. If it’s the one and only that we have, it should expand,” said Glover.

Fletcher went to city hall on Friday to see if they are looking into these changes. They did not talk to him in person but sent him an assessment study that shows what needs to be fixed.

It recommends these renovations so the aquatic center can continue operations for the next 20 years. It could include:

  • Fixing cracks to the pool shell.
  • Minor upgrades to the bath house including new doors and paint.
  • Address minor cracks in the pool deck concrete.

They study also proposes three expansions to the aquatic center. It includes a lazy river, an activity tower, and a leisure pool.

The expansion will be a multi-million-dollar project.

Glover told Fletcher she likes some of those ideas.

“The feature of a lazy river is neat,” she said.

There is more they’d like to see.

“Making sure that it’s an inclusive environment so that like when we have wheelchair lifts and things like that, I think that’s very important to make sure that we have opportunity for all of our community to be able to access it,” said Glover.

City officials told Fletcher that even though these proposed have been released, it does not mean they are for certain.

However, conversations have started between city hall and the Troy Recreation Department.

We will update this story.
