Labor Day Travel: How troopers are planning to keep drivers safe this holiday weekend

MIAMI VALLEY — Millions of people are set to travel this holiday weekend.

News Center 7′s Dontre Drexelius spoke with troopers about how they plan to keep drivers safe on the roads this holiday.

>> Labor Day weekend travel volume expected near pre-pandemic levels, says AAA

“We’re going to be looking for things like speed, following too close, proper lane changes, varied yield violations, left center violations, people that are using drugs and alcohol and just the normal criminal stuff that goes on in the roadway,” said Sergeant Chris Turner with the Dayton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

There are 100 days between Memorial Day to Labor Day known as “the deadliest days of summer.” It’s a time when troopers, police and deputies see the most fatal accidents.

“People get into wrecks where there is no alcohol or substances involved. It’s just at that point, for lack of better terms, they’re just on the way back and they’re not paying attention,” said Jerod Turner, AAA Retail Manager.

Officials say that it’s okay if you plan on having a little bit of fun this weekend as long as you make arrangements before getting behind the wheel.
