Large planned fight leads to deadly shooting near Dayton elementary school

DAYTON — A bystander was shot and killed during a fight between two women Monday.

As reported on News Center 7 at 6, multiple 911 calls brought police to the International School at Residence Park.

“There’s a mob of kids out here, they got cars, you got people outside cars, they’re fussing and arguing,” One 911 caller said.

Police found 33-year-old Britton Harrison who was later pronounced dead.

“A small group of people had gathered there for a fight, so two ladies were there to fight,” Maj. Brian Johns with Dayton Police Department said.

Johns said they believe 25 to 30 people packed into the parking lot.

One man walked one of the women who fought back to a vehicle.

“Which time he takes his gun out and begins to shoot at the crowd where the fight actually began at. The people in the crowd went to other vehicles, got their guns, and began to fire back,” Johns said.

Police believe three or four people all grabbed guns and opened fire.

Officers found evidence that about 40 shots were fired.

Police said they are surprised the shooting did not hurt more people.

“It’s another example of when we talk about people dealing with conflict and the right ways to do it and the wrong way to do it, this is another example of the wrong way to do it,” Johns said.

Police said neighbors have witnessed a lot of planned fights at the school.

Arrests have not been made in the shooting yet.
