DAYTON — A male is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Dayton Saturday night, according to Dayton Chief of Police Kamran Afzal.

Around 8 p.m., Dayton police were responding to “address the vacant house/block party issues” in the 500 block of Negley Place.
Officers approached a male who allegedly had a firearm.
Afzal said the male ran from officers, then turned around and allegedly pointed a gun at them.
Two officers fired their guns at the male, according to a statement posted to the Dayton Police & Fire Facebook page.
Police “began rendering medical aid” to the male as medics were dispatched to the scene.
Medics transported the male to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The age and identity of the male was not immediately available.
Afzal said officers found a gun on scene.
News Center 7′s Malik Patterson was on scene and spoke with people who said they saw the shooting happen.
Mayce Harris and Aiyanah Ramsey said they were at a get-together when the shooting occurred.
“Having a little get-together and one of our fellow brothers, the police asked about him and you know he just started you know proceeded to run and they just shot him,” Ramsey said.
“They started chasing after him and he started running and they just got to firing off shots,” Harris said.
The women said the shooting occurred in front of a large crowd.

“Two officers, not one, empty their clip(s)... Shooting in front of a crowd full of kids, grown-ups, teenagers, we all could have lost our lives,” Ramsey said.
News Center 7′s Malik Patterson also saw Dayton Mayor Jeffrey Mims, Dayton Police Chief Kamran Afzal, and other local officials on scene.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office will be handling the criminal investigation and the Dayton Police Professional Standards Bureau will conduct a separate administrative investigation.
