Police dispatched to the Riverstone Apartments, in the 100 block of Grafton Avenue, on a weapons complaint about 11:15 p.m. Wednesday located the 46-year-old man who was suffering from the gunshot wound.
Officers arrived to hear a fire alarm, which had prompted residents to become distressed and leave the large building, the lieutenant said.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the man used a rock to damage the building, which triggered the alarm.
Bauer said the man is prohibited from possessing firearms and that the police department’s Violent Offender Unit has been assigned to the investigation.
Video from the scene showed medics and several Dayton police cruisers.
