Hospital releases Dayton police officer who was stabbed in the neck; Suspect is in jail

DAYTON — The Dayton police officer who was stabbed in the neck Thursday during a scuffle that erupted on a mental health call has been released from Miami Valley Hospital, the police department said in a statement released minutes ago.

“The officer was stabbed in the neck and we are fortunate a major artery was not struck,” the department said in the statement. “The officer has been treated and released, and will be off while recuperating from his injuries.”

The suspect, who was taken into custody immediately after the incident, remains in the Montgomery County Jail. Several felony charges are pending, the department said.

Crews were called to a house in the 1500 block of Bancroft Street around 2:30 p.m. on a mental health call, according to Dayton police Lt. Col. Eric Henderson.

A Signal 99, otherwise known as a county-wide call for officers in need of assistance, was also issued, according to police and fire radio scanner traffic.

During the call, dispatchers could hear a commotion in the background, Henderson said. When officers arrived, radio dispatch traffic indicated an officer had been stabbed, according to Henderson.

Henderson said additional officers arrived and the suspect was taken into custody with no injuries.

According to jail records, Tyler Patrick is in custody at Montgomery County Jail and was arrested in the 1500 block of Bancroft Street around 3:30 p.m.

Patrick is expected to appear in court Friday.
