2 taken to hospital after shooting in Dayton

DAYTON — Two people were taken to the hospital after a shooting in Dayton Monday morning.

Police and medics responded to the shooting in the area of James H. McGee Boulevard and West 5th Street.

Lt. Randy Beane with Dayton Police Department said police were able to locate a victim who said that a male had attempted to steal his vehicle.

“He intervened while the male was in his truck and ordered him out at gunpoint,” Beane said. “The suspect then was able to pull a firearm and shoot the victim. The victim returned fire, hitting the suspect.”

The suspect was located at a local hospital where he was taken into custody.

Both people are now being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
