The man who died in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday evening was identified as 40-year-old Richard Blauvelt of New Carlisle, according to the Miami County Coroner’s Office.
UPDATE @ 8:15 p.m.:
A 40-year-old New Carlisle man was killed this evening in a two-vehicle crash at Dayton-Brandt Road and Ohio 41 in Elizabeth Twp., east of Troy.
The crash between a car and pickup truck was reported shortly before 5 p.m. The victim’s name has not been released.

“Witnesses that live close to the area said the guy in the vehicle was coming north on Dayton-Brandt, and actually looked over, gave a wave, kind of a neighborly wave, and he said he never saw him hit the brakes. He went right through the stop sign right as the Dodge truck was coming through. The Dodge truck hit it square in the door,” Lt. Todd Tennant of the Miami County Sheriff’s Office said.
A resident removed the victim from the car and performed CPR as they waited for crews to arrive, the lieutenant said.
Tennant said driver inattention likely led to the crash, and that speed or alcohol aren’t considered factors.
It is under investigation whether the car’s driver was wearing a seat belt.
A man and child in the pickup were both wearing seat belts and were not injured, though the other driver was shaken by the crash, Tennant said.
FIRST REPORT
A man believed to be in his 40s is confirmed dead in a two-vehicle accident on state Route 41 at Dayton-Brandt Road in Elizabeth Twp., east of Troy.
The accident, dispatched just before 5:30 p.m. is believed to involve a pickup truck and four-door sedan.
Steve Lavender, a Dayton-Brandt Road resident who said he witnessed the collision, said the man in the car was headed north on Dayton-Brandt Road, didn’t stop at the intersection and collided with the truck.
“He didn’t stop at all,” Lavender said. “I yelled ‘stop!’ ”
Lavender said he another person tried to help the man in the car.
