The first chance for snow arrives Thursday night into Friday morning.

Accumulations of likely a half-inch to two inches are possible. Slick and snow-covered roads will be possible on untreated roads for the Friday morning commute, according to Marando.

Confidence is growing that the Miami Valley will see a significant winter storm by this weekend. The system is expected to arrive in the region late Sunday through Monday.

“Snow should be the main precipitation type locally. It is a little too early to talk specific numbers, but the potential exists for several inches of snow with the heaviest snow falling across the southern half of the region,” said Marando.

He adds that difficult travel is likely and road crews may not catch up until after the snow ends late Monday.

“The worst travel conditions will occur late Sunday night through early Monday morning due to heavy snow and reduced visibility,” said Marando. “Still some uncertainty in the specific storm track. Shifts north or south will change where the axis of heaviest snow sets up. It appears unlikely however that we miss out on snow at this point.”

Several school districts across the region are scheduled to resume classes after winter break on Monday.

Storm Center 7′s team of meteorologists will continue to monitor all the developments in the upcoming system and this story will be updated.
