Local Big Lots set to reopen next month

KETTERING — Almost 200 Big Lots locations are reopening, including at least one in the Miami Valley.

As News Center 7 previously reported, under new ownership, Big Lots is returning after declaring bankruptcy in December and closing 300 of its stores.

“I wasn’t surprised to hear that it’s closing but more to hear it’s opening back up,” Kristy Gillard of Riverside said.

Big Lots is going through applicants to make sure they’re ready to open its doors on May 15.

The store is now owned by Variety Wholesalers.

The North Carolina-based company plans to reopen 219 Big Lot stores in waves.

The Kettering location reopening is part of the second wave.
