Sponsored by the Collett Propane Inc. for Xenia Fire Division and local fire departments in the region, the event aimed to teach firefighters and homeowners who use propane how to respond to a fire where propane might be involved.

Attendees participated in a classroom portion of the event and were then able to practice a propane burn for firefighting.

Branch Manager for Collett Propane Inc., Tyler McCormick, said the nationally recognized training program has two goals: protect life and protect property.

Fire making it to a propane tank can cause further problems to both firefighters and those in the home where the fire occurred.

“The most important thing for us being out here is making sure they know how to stay safe. Anytime we can help them prevent loss of life and loss of property, that’s what we want to do”, McCormick said.

There were a total of 50 firefighters in the class and 40 for the live propane burn.
