Local man arrested, accused of assaulting officers during Jan. 6 Capitol attack

CENTERVILLE — A local man is facing charges related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

Joseph Charles Valentour, 66, of Centerville is facing charges of assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers and obstruction of law enforcement during a civil order, according to a federal criminal complaint.

He is also facing five misdemeanor charges related to breaching the capitol.

Valentour was arrested on Jan. 3 in Ohio, according to the Department of Justice.

Body-camera footage from the Capitol attack allegedly shows Valentour approach a police line.

Valentour allegedly pushed against the police line and worked with other rioters to disarm an officer of their shield causing the officer to fall down a flight of stairs.

When an officer came to help, Valentour allegedly charged at the officer and pushed him with his body.

Valentour’s son, Jonathan Wayne “Duke” Valentour of Colorado, is also facing similar charges for his actions at the Capitol.

In the 48 months since Jan. 6, 2021, more than 1,583 people have been charged in nearly all 50 states for crimes related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol, according to the DOJ.
