MIAMI TOWNSHIP — After noticing a man who was in need of help, an area officer did what he could to make sure the man was cared for.

A Miami Township officer was called to a welfare check on Jan. 6 and found a man who was homeless, hungry and underdressed for the weather, according to a social media post by the police department.

The man had no means to get to a local shelter or family to take him in, so the officer decided to step in.

The officer drove the man to Wal-Mart where he bought him a shirt, hat, socks and shoes, according to the social media post.

After stopping to get the man a hot breakfast and coffee, the officer then took him to a bus stop where he provided him with resources for a local shelter.

“Great job Sgt. Swallen, we appreciate your dedication to the community!” the department wrote in the social media post.
