OAKWOOD — Eliza Fletcher was kidnapped and killed after jogging in Memphis, Tennessee.

The “5 Rivers Running Team’s” president sat down with News Center 7′s Brandon Lewis and shared his reactions to the runner’s passing.

Paul Bohannan, the team’s president, told us he hates to see anything like this happen. He offered some advice to those looking to keep running.

Running with others or partnering up, being aware of your surroundings, and try not to listen to music when you run by yourself are a few good ideas to stay safe.

Knowing how to defend yourself can make a significant difference if you run with a group or by yourself.

Bohannan said being cautious is important, but running should also be fun.

“Never should an incident like that stop us from going out and making sure we’re having a good time,” Bohannan said.

Wearing lights at night and being aware of traffic and weather can also help, Bohannan added.
