MIAMISBURG — Fourth of July weekend is big for cookouts, fireworks, and rocking red, white, and blue, but there’s also the opportunity for some big savings at the stores.
Emily Foley, a shopping expert with RetailMeNot, told News Center 7 that long holiday weekends like this are when shoppers can see great deals.

“Great time to shop this weekend,” she said.
When you’re done with your cookout, Foley said you should take advantage of the weekend of sales. But, as reported on News Center 7 at 5:00, it all depends on what you’re shopping for.
“Three-day weekends are really a huge time for mattresses,” Foley said. “You always see discounts during those three-day weekends because it gives customers a chance to think about a purchase.”
Appliances are also discounted this weekend. Everything from washers and dryers to refrigerators is marked down.
“You’re thinking long-term. That’s not something you’re just using for the holiday,” she said. “But those sales are here now you’re going to want to get those.”
Summer clothes also go on sale this weekend. Foley likes to think ahead and take advantage.

“I’m a mom and, literally, as soon as the July 4 holiday hits, I know right after is when I need to start thinking [about] back to school.”
You don’t have to just think ahead. Summer staples like grills are also on sale.
“Stuff for all the outdoor fun, like pool accessories and long games, and then even decor, food, and snacks, all big sale items for this Fourth of July weekend,” Foley said.
There are some things Foley says you shouldn’t buy this weekend, like electronics and televisions.
“If you don’t need one right now, if you can hold off, you always want to wait and do TVs on Black Friday, because that’s always the best possible deals,” she said.
To make sure you are getting the best possible deals, Foley suggests shopping around.
