A Louisville math teacher and U.S. Air Force Reservist who survived the shooting in Dayton’s Oregon District is being credited for saving a woman’s life.
David Richards was inside Ned Peppers when a gunman opened fire near its entrance, according to CNN. He was in Dayton for Air Force training.

Richards took cover and prevented a woman he had been dancing with and her friends from running outside.
“They tried to get up and run. We’re like ‘no, stay down.’ If he gets through that door, easily another 20, 30 people die,” he said.
The woman’s father later found Richards on Facebook. The pair have stayed in contact, discussing how they’re recovering from the traumatic incident.
