DAYTON — The Miami Valley Hospital experienced a water break on Sunday.
>>ORIGINAL COVERAGE: ‘Significant damage’ reported at Miami Valley Hospital after water break
The break originated from the handler on the roof, a spokesperson for Premier Health said.
“Miami Valley Hospital experienced a water break that originated from the handler on the roof. This has caused significant damage, however, hospital leadership has developed a temporary emergency plan to ensure healthcare delivery is maintained.”

News Center 7′s Malik Patterson talked to Natalie Sage, who was visiting a loved one at the hospital when the water break occurred.
“I was out in the hallway making a telephone call, and I heard a loud voice come across the speakers ‘Attention all patients and visitors, the hospital is officially locked down at this present moment, we ask that people do not start moving around, to go back to your rooms or wherever you are supposed to be at until further notice,’” Sage told News Center 7.
However, the spokesperson for Premier Health told News Center 7 that the hospital was never under a lockdown situation.
They also said patient care units were not affected and no patients were re-routed.
“It made me very nervous that something else was going on, or there was something else in that water that could have possibly killed me or made me sick or something. That’s the first thing a lot of people jump to,” she said.

Dayton Fire Department Captain Brad French told News Center 7 that its operations have not been affected by the water main break inside the hospital.
French said that medic units are still transporting patients to Miami Valley Hospital as needed.
News Center 7 asked Premier Health’s spokesperson if the water break could be related to the cold weather, but we did not receive a clear answer.
“Premier Health facilities team is leading the repairs needed,” the spokesperson said.
