Initial report:

A man died Tuesday night after being shot at least once inside a car on Wentworth Avenue.

Dayton police Sgt. Jeffrey Spires said two other people were in the car, a blue Cadillac, at the time of the shooting. Those witnesses were being interviewed Tuesday night by detectives, he said.

The shooting was reported just before 9 p.m. on Wentworth Avenue near Gettysburg Avenue in Dayton.

The victim’s name and age has not been released.

The shooter was reported to be driving a red Dodge Charger with black stripes on the side, according to the Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center.

Police pursued that vehicle in Dayton and into Moraine but were not able to stop the driver.

Police later found the car abandoned on Kenwood Avenue in Dayton, about three miles from the shooting scene.

Witnesses there told police they saw the driver flee from the car.

Spires said detectives have not confirmed the Charger was connected to the shooting, which remains under investigation.
