Man accused of hitting girlfriend with SUV, severing her foot, formally charged

HARRISON TWP. — The man accused of hitting his girlfriend in an SUV, which severed her foot, has been formally charged.

Darius Thomas, 31, was indicted Tuesday with two felony counts of felonious assault and one count of vehicular assault, according to the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office.

As previously reported by News Center 7, Thomas was identified by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office as the person of interest in a case involving a pedestrian crash back on Jan. 29.

When deputies arrived, they found a 29-year-old woman lying on the ground and her friend was applying pressure to her injuries.

The victim’s right foot was amputated entirely at her ankle, the prosecutor’s office said.

Video surveillance from the business showed the victim was in a fight with Thomas. The altercation became physical.

It shows the suspect hitting the victim twice in the face with a closed fist.

Surveillance video also shows Thomas getting into his vehicle, a Kia Soul. He drove towards the victim as she was leaving, struck her from behind, and pinned her between the SUV and pole near the door in the parking lot behind the business, the prosecutor’s office stated.

Thomas drove from the scene. It was later found out that he was driving with a suspended license.

Online jail records indicate he is in the Montgomery County Jail on a $500,000 cash bond.

His next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday at 8:30 a.m.
