A neighbor told police that the garage door had been open for several days, trash was all over the driveway and a pizza delivery was never picked up from the front door.
When officers arrived, they found Amuzie Soronnadi, 41, at the house.
Molnar said it appeared that Soronnadi was suffering from a mental health crisis.
Officers tried to communicate with the man, but “were met with aggression and uncooperativeness,” Molnar said.
While trying to de-escalate the situation, a fire broke out inside the house.
“It appears that the subject intentionally set the fire but still refused to exit the home and speak with officers,” Molnar said.
Police were able to get Soronnadi out of the house through a window.
He was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries and then released to the Greene County Jail.
Soronnadi faces aggravated arson and obstruction charges, according to Fairborn Municipal Court records.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 9.
No firefighters or police officers were injured in this incident.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office is helping the Beavercreek Police Department and the Beavercreek Fire Department in this investigation.
