Man accused of stabbing man to death in Riverside home found competent to stand trial

DAYTON — A man accused of stabbing another man to death inside a Riverside home has been found competent to stand trial.

On April 24, 29-year-old Cornelius Brogan was determined by a judge to be “presently competent to stand trial”, after a psychiatric report submitted by the Forensic Psychiatry Center for Western Ohio.

Brogan is accused of stabbing Scott Hannah, 28, several times inside a Riverside home on Dundee Circle. Hannah’s body was discovered inside the home on Nov. 27.

Brogan and Hannah had known each other, according to investigators. Friends of Hannah told News Center 7 they had been in periods of dating and friendship over the years.

He was located and arrested in Logan County, Kentucky days later. He was later transferred to the Montgomery County.

Brogan pleaded not guilty to the charges in December 2022 for reason of insanity, prompting a mental competency evaluation to be filed.

A second motion was filed in March.

Brogan remains in Montgomery County Jail on a $1 million bond, his next day in court is set for June 20.
