When police arrived on the scene, they found Darrin Pollock in a grassy area near the docking area with a single stab wound to his chest.
He was transported to Springfield Regional Medical Center, where he later died.
The two men appeared to be fighting over a backpack just before the stabbing, court documents indicated.
Poole is scheduled to be back in court later this week.
