SPRINGFIELD — A Springfield man has been charged with operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI) for the eighth time.

Just after 10 p.m. on Jan. 11, 55-year-old Eric Allen was stopped by an Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) trooper for failing to use a turn signal and operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license.

During the traffic stop, the trooper noticed Allen appeared to be impaired, and had an open container of alcohol in the vehicle’s cup holder, according to a release.
Allen has prior OVI convictions from 1990, 1994, 1997, 1999, 2000, and felony OVI convictions in 2006 and 2009, according to OSHP.
He was placed under arrest and is scheduled to appear in Clark County Municipal Court on Jan . 17.
