The driver was heading south on Woodman Drive and lost control of his Chevrolet SUV near E. Stroop Road. He drove over a curb, went off the side of the road, and hit a tree, according to the report.

A witness stopped at a traffic light at the intersection of Woodman Drive and E. Stroop Road told police that when the light turned green, they looked in their rearview mirror and saw the SUV approaching them at a high rate of speed.

The witness claimed the SUV “suddenly turned to the left” and avoided crashing into them. This caused the SUV to cross over the center line on Woodman Drive. The driver tried to get back in the correct lane but hit a raised median, the report stated.

The SUV then went over the curb and sidewalk before hitting a tree.

The crash remains under investigation.
