FAIRBORN — A construction worker was temporarily trapped in a trench box used to build houses Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency crews responded to the area of Waterford Blvd. and Cascade Dr. in the Ryan Homes development to find a man who was stuck in the structure from having his leg lodged underneath dirt and mud.

Initially, crews were not sure how to extract the man while also saving his leg, according to Battalion Chief Brad Eckert.

The Kettering surgical team was then requested to amputate his leg if their rescue attempts were unsuccessful.

Eckert told News Center 7 that a city vacuum truck was called to suction the area around the leg and release him from the mud.

The man was successfully extracted, and no injuries reported.
