Man claims to be shooting victim, later arrested

DAYTON — One man was arrested Sunday night after claiming to be a victim of a shooting, according to Dayton Police Lieutenant Mark Ponichtera.

Dayton police officers responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment building on 108 Melba Street.

When officers arrived on scene, they quickly located two people who were involved, Ponichtera said.

After 9 p.m., a man called 911 claiming to be the victim of a shooting, but that was not the case.

News Center 7 previously reported that a man was grazed by a bullet based on reports from Montgomery County dispatch supervisors, however, no one was shot.

Police determined this man started a fight with a knife in his possession. He told an officer on scene that he was not shot despite telling 911 dispatchers the opposite, Ponichtera said.

The man does not live at the apartment building and was trespassed from the property.

The two people who got into a fight know each other, Ponichtera said.
