Man hit, killed by train in Richmond; police seek help finding family

RICHMOND — Richmond police are working to find family of a man who was hit and killed by a train Tuesday afternoon.

The crash happened around 4:45 p.m. in the area of NW 2nd and NW F streets in the city after a train dispatcher called to said the train hit someone. The train was travelling west.

“Officers from the second shift patrol division responded to the area and found the train was stopped,” police said in a statement. “Norfolk Southern crew, Richmond Police officers, and members of the Richmond Fire Department located a deceased white male underneath the train.”

The man was identified as Donald Lee Meyer, 50. Police do not know where his last known address was located.

“The Richmond Police Department would like express our most sincere condolences to family and friends of Mr. Meyer,” police said.
