At 7:25 a.m., Xenia police officers were dispatched to the area of 190 S Orange St. on reports that a man was shooting a gun.
According to a Xenia Police Division incident report, the manager of the apartment complex said the man pointed the gun at him and tried to shoot.
When officers arrived, they found the suspect outside an apartment complex with a handgun.
Additional officers responded and said they saw the suspect point the gun at the initial crews, according to the incident report.
According to a spokesperson from the division, shots were fired, and the suspect was injured.
He was transported to Miami Valley Hospital. His current condition and identity are not immediately available.
Xenia resident Aubrey Hicks said she had not experienced anything like this before.
“It was like, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, so like about five or six,” Hicks said.
She said she didn’t have much time to react.

“I thought it was just a shooting… I hit the floor,” Hicks said.
Hicks said police arrived at her apartment building quickly.
“It happened so quick that the cops got him before he shot the other person that he was trying to shoot at, that lives here,” Hicks said.
Hicks said shootings are becoming a regular occurrence. She doesn’t think stricter gun laws would help the problem.
“There’d still be crime, there’d still be assault and stuff like that. It’s not the guns, it’s the people.”
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) is investigating this shooting.
A spokesperson with Ohio BCI confirmed the suspect is still at Miami Valley Hospital.
