Man arrested after Clark County police pursuit pleads not guilty

The man arrested after leading police on a pursuit through Clark County appeared in court Thursday and had a judge enter pleas of not guilty for him.

Municipal Court Judge Denise Moody entered the pleas for Hurshel King Jr. on charges of firearms possession, fleeing and eluding police officers and having weapons as a felon.

Judge Moody set bond at $12,500.

According to initial reports, the police pursuit occurred late Wednesday afternoon and ended in the area of Ohio 4 and Moorefield Road after a blue Ford Explorer was driven over spiked sticks.

Police collected a .22-caliber pistol from the vehicle. More evidence was collected from a hotel room King had recently rented.

Police said he may be connected to a burglary the day before the pursuit and a second burglary in Champaign County.

A Facebook post by Clark County Sheriff Deb Burchett with a photo of Wednesday’s scene says, “My suggestion is if you are going to break into houses don’t come to Clark County.”

She went on to thank the other departments involved in the chase including Springfield Police Division, The Ohio State Highway Patrol and Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.

I grew up in Springfield and I'm a big fan of all things Springfield, including Schuler's & the Clark County Fair. A career in journalism never really was a serious thought until the end of high school. You just have epiphanies sometimes, and that's the only way I can explain why I got into this line of work – but I'm happier for it!
