DARKE COUNTY — A man walked away with only minor injuries after a suspected tornado caused his car to flip multiple times in Darke County Wednesday evening.

Ronald Kelly is visiting the area from out of town and was driving on State Route 49 in Pitsburgh when he crossed the storm’s path.

“I saw a tornado forming and I thought ‘well, I can get by.’ That was an error in judgement and I did not get by and it got ahold of me,” Kelly said.

Kevin Shawler saw Kelly’s vehicle crash and helped him get out of the car.

“I saw it flip over probably four to six times. I expected the driver to be injured,” Shawler said.

Kelly walked away with just a cut on his head.

“The lord might have had to do something with that, I would suspect, since I’ve tried to call my wife to tell her and she’s in church,” Kelly said.

He says he’s not even in any pain and is just grateful it wasn’t any worse.

“I’ll probably be sore tomorrow, because I’m sure I stretched some muscles that weren’t stretched anytime lately,” Kelly said.

Kelly says he will get a rental car to get him back home to South Carolina.
