RIVERSIDE — New details have been released after a man was rescued from a manhole in Riverside Saturday after being stuck in there for three days.
Saturday just before 4:10 p.m. Riverside fire and police were called to 500 block of Reading Road to reports of a man being found underground after falling through a manhole cover, according to a police report.
When officers arrived on the scene they saw a hammer and crowbar beside the open manhole cover and a 54-year-old man inside the utility hole.
The report claims those tools belonged to the man.
The man told officers that he had been stuck in the hole for three days and he thought his leg may be broken, according to the report.
When fire crews arrived on the scene they found that it was a 20-foot drop to the man and advised that the man had been drinking septic water.

Officers were later informed that the man was reported as an endangered missing person.
The man had to have surgery on his right ankle but no other injuries were listed in the report.
