Man with ‘violent criminal history’ in custody after chase, standoff; another suspect at large

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP — A man was taken into custody after a chase and SWAT stand-off in Butler County Thursday.

Around 3:10 p.m. Butler County deputies were called to help the Ohio State Highway Patrol with a chase that had begun in Clermont County and ended in Liberty Township.

The two people in the car had a violent criminal history, with one having a warrant for assault out of Butler County, according to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.

Their car was spotted at Lake Liberty, where one person, identified as the passenger, had run into a home.

After he refused to leave the home, the Butler County Regional SWAT Team was called.

A fully loaded gun was found in the car and the barricaded man was eventually taken into custody after an hours-long standoff.

Authorities learned the driver of the car was not inside the home and had, instead, run in a different direction, according to our news partners at WCPO.

That person remains at large, but authorities said they do not believe him to be armed or dangerous.
