As News Center 7 previously reported, Dayton police and medics were called to the 2900 block of Louella Avenue on reports of a person shot after 4:35 p.m. on Sunday.

Upon arrival, officers located Davidson who was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to Dayton Police Lt. Steven Bauer.

Theresa Williamson lives in the area and said her three grandnieces, ages 11, 12, and 13, barely escaped the deadly shooting.

“And they took off running and screaming and by the time they got in the house, that’s when they unloaded,” Williamson said.

Williamson told News Center 7 that her grandnieces were helping her put flowers and lights near the driveway when they spotted a suspicious car go around the block twice.

“They covered up with masks, my niece said they had on black masks,” Williamson said.

Moments later, the gunfire rang out and eventually claimed Davidson’s life.

Detectives spent hours speaking with witnesses, learning about the apparent drive-by shooting.

“One vehicle and several other residences were struck by the reckless gunfire,” Bauer said.

Williamson said she’s just thankful her nieces got inside in time.

That was not the only deadly gunfire in Dayton this weekend.

On Saturday before 7:25 a.m., officers were dispatched to Miami Valley Hospital on the report of a person shot after Lyle was brought to the hospital via private conveyance for medical treatment, Bauer said.

Detectives found that the incident happened near US 35 and James H. McGee Boulevard.

Additional information on this shooting was not immediately available.

The killings continue a troubling trend of careless and deadly gunfire this summer in Dayton.

“All I could do was just pray because it’s too much danger around here and they don’t care about the kids,” Williamson said.
