News Center 7′s Ronnell Hunt reports that even though snow stopped falling just hours ago in Champaign County, roads are still slick and black ice will be present as temperatures drop throughout the night.

Untreated sidewalks and streets will be hazardous for people who are planning to make morning commutes.

UPDATE @ 12:42 p.m.:

Most highways and interstates are clear after snow fell heavily Saturday night into Sunday morning.

There are still areas, specifically side roads that may be slick into the afternoon.

If drivers are able to stay in Sunday, ODOT is recommending to do so. If anyone needs to go out today, crews are asking that you drive cautiously and give snow plows plenty of room on the road.

WHIO will continue to monitor and update you on road and travel conditions throughout the day and into the night.

INITIAL REPORT @ 8:52 a.m.:

The winter snow system made its way to the Miami Valley Saturday night and crews were able to clear snow off of many main roads overnight, but some areas are still hazardous for drivers Sunday.

Although many roads appear clear, there are plenty of side streets and even some main streets that remain snow covered.

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is cautioning drivers to stay home.

“Travel conditions remain hazardous and travel is discouraged if possible,” ODOT stated.

As of 6:15 a.m., ODOT had more than 1,200 crews out across the state dealing with winter weather conditions.

Pavement temperatures are generally in the low to mid 30′s, with plenty of icy spots to watch out for, according to ODOT.

Although many roads south of I-70 are mainly wet and slushy, roads may still be snow covered north of I-70, such as US-33 at State Route 347, The National Weather Service (NWS) said.

The NWS said to exercise caution if you are out and about this morning, but conditions are expected to improve through the morning as temperatures warm.
