Driver runs off, passenger arrested after crash off McGee Blvd. in Dayton

UPDATE 8/21/18 @ 2:50 a.m: The person arrested at the scene of crash that occurred at Hoover Avenue and North James H. McGee Boulevard is Wayne A. Talley, 36.

Talley, who was reportedly the passenger in the vehicle, was taken into custody after a tussle with police.

The driver of the vehicle fled and has not been located.

Talley is currently in Montgomery County Jail on charges of aggravated menacing and OVI. Jail records also show he had a warrant for his arrest.

UPDATE @ 10:40 p.m.: The driver ran off and his passenger has been taken into custody from the crash of a vehicle down an embankment off North James H. McGee Boulevard in Dayton.

Dayton police said that according to witnesses, a vehicle headed east on Hoover failed to negotiate a turn onto southbound McGee and continued at least 30 feet down the embankment. The vehicle didn't reach Wolf Creek, but did catch fire.

Police tell us they believe the driver and passenger were the only occupants in the car.

The passenger taken into custody -- after a tussle with police -- had been sought on a warrant.

McGee remains closed in both directions until further notice.

INITIAL REPORT

A medic unit has been dispatched to vehicle crash at Hoover Avenue and North James H. McGee Boulevard.

We're hearing the vehicle has gone down an embankment.

Police have closed north James H. McGee at Hoover Avenue, which is across from Wolf Creek. It appears the vehicle traveled from Hoover, across McGee and down an embankment. Fire/rescue crews are deploying ropes and fire hoses as they make their way down the embankment to the vehicle.

There is a report of smoke coming from the vehicle as well.

The accident was reported just after 10 p.m.
