Trotwood High football player ‘conscious’ after he collapses ‘in full arrest’

Carl Blanton Jr., a senior receiver for the Trotwood football team collapsed and apparently went into “full arrest” on Friday, Sept. 27 just after 10 p.m.

Blanton, also a standout basketball player on the school’s 2018-19 Division II state championship team, went down while the team was gathered around the head coach during the post-game huddle on the field after the Rams vs. Northmont game. Trotwood Athletic Director Frank Russo said Blanton was conscious as he was taken to Miami Valley Hospital from the school.

Blanton’s condition is not immediately known.

“It’s a tough one,” Trotwood-Madison head coach Jeff Graham said. “We really don’t know exactly everything that went on. We know his pulse is doing well and he’s responsive, so that’s good.”

Graham said coaches talk with the players about hydration all the time.

“I’m glad he’s OK, but I’m hoping these young men and women understand that eating proper food and hydrating your body and doing the right things go a long way in this game. You don’t want a scary moment like that,” he said.

Blanton played the entire game Friday night, apparently without any problems before he collapsed. Trotwood-Madison won the game 20-14.
