SPRINGFIELD — UPDATE @ 7 a.m: A Springfield police report indicates a Springfield man who was flown by medical helicopter to a Dayton hospital Monday morning was stabbed by three masked men.

Springfield police began their investigation this morning a little after midnight when they were called to the 1000 block of Middle Street in reference to a man being stabbed in the chest.
“(Officers) observed that the male....had a stab wound to his upper right chest,” the report says.
The man told police that three men wearing masks had tried to rob him in an alley on Warder Street, but were unable to get anything from him. However, he had been stabbed, the report says.
“(The man) advised that he was alone at the time of the incident,” the report says.
Officers attempted to find a crime scene but were unable to do so, the also report says

Witnesses who found the man, according to the report, told officers they didn’t witness the attack but found the man afterward and called authorities.
The condition of the victim is still unknown. The report says the man had complained about having trouble breathing before he was flown to Miami Valley Hospital from Springfield.

Careflight has been called to transport one person to an area hospital after a stabbing reportedly occurred on Middle Street early Monday morning.
Initial reports indicate officials responded to the 1000 block around 12:15 a.m. on a male with a reported stab wound.
