Miami basketball team pays tribute to ‘adopted’ teen who died after cancer battle

A 16-year-old boy from Minster has died after his battle with cancer, Miami University officials confirmed on Twitter.

Jackson Hogenkamp, who was diagnosed with osterosarcoma in early August, died Friday afternoon at Dayton Children’s Hospital.

Hogenkamp was adopted on Dec. 16, 2018, by the Miami University men’s basketball team.

“We are heartbroken to learn of the loss of Jackson Hogenkamp. Over the past two years he inspired us with his courage and attitude in face of adversity. Our deepest sympathies to his family. We were honored to be a small part of your journey and will never forget you Jackson!” the team wrote in the tweet.
