Miami Valley air quality remains at unhealthy levels due to Canadian wildfire smoke

MIAMI VALLEY — An Air Quality Alert has been issued for parts of the Miami Valley Wednesday and Thursday as Canadian wildfire smoke continues to cover the region.

As of 4 p.m. Wednesday, the Air Quality Index is 184, which is “unhealthy”.

Those who have asthma, COPD, older adults, or small children are highly sensitive to these conditions need to use extreme caution and stay indoors if possible. If you must travel outdoors, please use a mask, according to meteorologist Birtley Ritz.

Wednesday morning visibility in the Miami Valley dropped below a mile.

An area of high pressure will shift winds to the southwest Thursday, pushing smoke back to the Great Lakes and into the northeast by late Thursday.

This is expected to cause smoke to lighten up by Friday.
