MIAMISBURG — A Miamisburg diner has closed its doors for good.
According to a social media post from Rye Toast, located on 1015 South Main Street, the diner permanently closed on Thursday due to the “rise in cost of goods.”
“Well it is with a heavy heart that I must inform everyone that due to the rise in the cost of goods we are permanently closed as of today 6/9/22! I am very saddened by this and it has been an awesome time getting to know so many wonderful people,” the post said.
The restaurant’s owner and chef Tom Tiner rtold News Center 7 that the increasing costs of goods and operation could be something he could pass on to customers, he doesn’t feel it’s fair to them.
“It’s a huge price increase that, even though people say they are willing to pay more for good food, this is just a hike that would be just much more than we could actually charge,” Tiner said.
Tiner said he has customers come in while they are cleaning up the shop to close it expressing their sadness — even people who haven’t visited have said they wanted them to succeed.

The restaurant was in business for just over a year.
Going into it Tiner said he knew 2021 year would be a struggle, but he thought it was one he could overcome.
He said that was until he was hit with rising costs of food, gas, and operation in 2022.
“It’s a numbers game that unfortunately a lot of small mom and pop shops aren’t going to be able to keep up with,” Tiner said.
Tiner said has been in the business for over 30 years, and he put a lot into Rye Toast.
“I put my heart and soul, and my staff put their heart and soul into it, it’s very saddening. I feel very deflated,” he said.
“Small business owners, it’s supposed to be the American dream but unfortunately it’s a lot tougher to succeed these days,” he added.
