MIAMI TWP., Montgomery County — A former son-in-law is charged with murder and other felonies after he was accused of stabbing an 80-year-old man inside his Miami Twp. home more than 30 times, leading to his death.

A grand jury indicted Tylor Cawood, 28, of Miamisburg on charges of murder, aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, felonious assault and tampering with evidence last week. He is now in custody and being held in the Montgomery County Jail.

Cawood is accused of killing Jack Gilbert at his home in the 2100 block of Vienna Parkway last November.

“The victim’s daughter had discovered the home had been ransacked, found her deceased father, and called 911,” prosecutors said.

DNA evidence was used to identify Cawood as the suspect, prosecutors said.

Cawood has a warrant out for his arrest.

A search warrant for the home filed in Miamisburg Municipal Court has been sealed, according to the clerk of courts.

The victim’s daughter also said it appeared Gilbert’s truck was missing when she got to the house and she also couldn’t find a gun.

“He has a gun case out, there’s no gun in it,” the caller said. “I don’t even know where the truck is at or nothing.”
