Darlene Hensley’s two donkeys, Zeb and Ellie, were attacked by dogs in their pen on Dec. 12, according to a previous News Center 7 report.

TRENDING STORIES:

Zeb was taken to a vet hospital at Ohio State University, where he continues to recover.

Hensley has been providing daily updates on her Facebook, keeping the community informed on Zeb and Ellie’s progress.

In a post made on Tuesday, Hensley shared that she has started working on hugging and smiling on cue with both donkeys.

Zeb and Ellie served as emotional support animals for the community.

Ellie had both tricks down and Zeb is making good progress, Hensley said.

“I can’t believe 33 days ago all this pink skin was open, bleeding wounds. There were too many to count and many puncture life-threatening wounds. The healing has been miraculous,” Hensley said in the post.

As Zeb’s recovery continues, veterinarians have removed the elbow/shoulder bandage because the deepest wound in his armpit has closed, according to Hensley.

The wounds on his jaw and chin have continued to heal and they have backed off some of the pain meds.

Zeb is walking great and is eating more every day, according to Hensley.

He remains in the ICU but continues to make progress.

A GoFundMe was created to help pay the medical bills, and a new stall for Zeb and Ellie has reached $76,500.

We will continue to follow this story.
