Joseph Latona, 90, was reported missing when he went for a walk Wednesday, June 21, but did not return.

A search party began looking for the missing New Franklin man Friday at the Portage Lakes State Park. The search party consisted of horses, dogs, and geared underwater crew members, according to WOIO.

New Franklin Police requested people residing in the Manchester Road area to analyze their backyards, sheds, or any other out-buildings for the missing man.

The search continued through the day, however, the party was unsuccessful.

A day later, at around 3:53 p.m., New Franklin Police and Fire were dispatched to Turkeyfoot Lake on reports of a body found in the water.

The body was recovered and later identified as Latona’s.

The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office took custody of the body to determine the cause of death.
