Missing 10-year-old Indiana girl found dead, stepmother charged with murder

GAS CITY, Indiana — A missing 10-year-old girl who was believed to be in “extreme danger” has been found dead and her stepmother has been arrested on murder charges, according to Indiana State Police.

Skylea Carmack, of Gas City, Indiana was reported missing over the weekend and was described as being in extreme danger and possibly needing medical attention.

Skylea’s body was found in a plastic trash bag inside a shed behind her home in Gas City, ISP investigators said Wednesday.

A preliminary investigation found that Skylea was strangled however a full autopsy will be conducted to verify her cause of death.

Skylea’s stepmother, identified as Amanda Carmack, 34, has been arrested on a preliminary charge of murder and other charges and has been booked into the Grant County, Indiana jail.

State police said their investigation has found Skylea was strangled sometime between 4:30 and 6 p.m. Saturday, which was around the same time she was initially reported missing.
