It was just last month that Ohio reported its first case of Monkeypox; now there are 17 cases, according to the CDC.

The virus is spreading at a quick rate which has health officials worried.

It spreads through close contact, which is unlike how Covid-19 spreads.

If someone were to get it, the symptoms include fever, headaches, lesions, chills, and muscle aches.

News Center 7′s Dontre Drexelius spoke with Doctor Joseph Allen, Regional Medical Director of Premier Health, about what this meant.

“Monkeypox is here, it’s in Ohio,” he said. “It’s in the United States where it’s just a matter of time before we see it at some point in time.”

Allen told Drexelius that it will not have a huge impact like Covid-19 and we won’t see people necessarily in the hospital or dying this.

“It can have a very, very, very small, very rare impact on people where they can end up in that situation,” said Allen. “But with the strain that we’re seeing, that’s not real common.”

There is vaccine against the virus but the number of vaccines are limited.

There are around 20,000 cases of Monkeypox in 77 countries and more than 4,500 here in the U.S., according to the CDC.
